29 Oct 13 TPB's Annual Report tabled in Parliament
In a message from the Chair, Ian Taylor, Chair of the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) advised that the TPB's Annual Report 2012-13, was tabled in Parliament on Monday 28 October 2013.
Listed amongst the TPB's achievements for 2012-13 are the following:
- The TPB received 22,246 applications for registration as a tax or BAS agent and finalised 26,773 (42% more than in the previous year), reducing the backlog of applications by more than 70%.
- The TPB reduced the average time to process complete applications from 35 days in July 2012 to 19 days in June 2013, with an average over the year of 23 days.
- 2,104 registered and unregistered agent compliance cases were finalised
- 195 registered agents were sanctioned or had their renewal application rejected at the conclusion of TPB of compliance activities, and five matters were referred to the Federal Court for consideration of civil penalties.
In a media release issued 28 October 2013, Ian Taylor, Chair of the TPB said:
"Our objective is to ensure that tax agent services provided by tax practitioners are provided to the public in accordance with appropriate standards of professional and ethical conduct. This annual report details how we have worked collaboratively with our key stakeholders to achieve this objective".
