As reported last week, Taxation Institute Tax Counsel, Angie Ananda FTIA attended a special meeting of the ATO Tax Practitioner Forum on Tuesday, 23 March 2010. The key focus points of the meeting were:

The issues with the Notice of Assessments (NoA) and Statement of Accounts (SoA) identified by externals;
The possible improvements/changes to the NoA and SoA that the ATO are considering; and
Communication strategies.

The ATO have prepared a detailed list of all the major complaints received by the externals in relation to the new SoA and NoAs. The issues included the length, OCR/scanning capabilities, clarity regarding due dates and payment amounts, reference numbers, and references to the income tax year in question. The externals were given the opportunity to express their views on the priority of these issues. The ATO indicated that they are planning to release more communication products to better explain the new SoA and NoAs.

This list has now been made publicly available, for a copy of the list click here. The ATO indicated that the changes on the list were being looked at for rectification by June 2010.
