26 Mar 10 Update from Member 35 on refund delays

MEMBER 35 wrote two weeks ago (see 2010 TAXVINE No 9 (12 March 2010)) that his client had been waiting for a tax refund of over $100,000 which was recorded on their tax account effective late January 2010, but no one he talked to in the ATO could tell him why the refund had not issued. MEMBER 35 now provides this update:

"I refer to my last email where I raised the issue of my client's company having its $100K refund delayed even though the refund has been approved with an effective date of late January 2010.

With the 14 days having passed since the matter was escalated, I was then put in contact with the relationship manager area. Someone there then called me within the requisite 72 hours they give themselves to respond. The answer? They have done all they can and the refund should issue but they can’t say when. As this delay is causing the client severe cash flow problems I asked whether there was any other option. Apparently we can call the ATO on 132866 and plead our case. Tried to call, but received the message that they are receiving peak demand at the moment and can't answer our call.
