"I lodged 5 tax returns for a client on 20/1/2012, two assessments issued on the 3/2/2011.

I rang on the 23/2/2012 to ask were the other 3 had gone and was told they would be expedited and someone would contact me in two days.

By 21/3/2012 and having heard nothing, I rang to ask for a progress report, the reply being 'no one has looked at the returns, no case manager has been appointed but I will expedite them, someone will ring you in two days but ring back in a month if no one calls'.

I now understand why Deputy Commissioners write nasty letters to us all warning us not to be rude to the ATO staff.

I have been a registered tax agent since 1975 and never in all that time has the ATO been in such a mess, the systems don't work, the staff don't care, and many of them do not have the knowledge to be in the positions of power they find themselves in."
