MEMBER 252 raises a very good point about the Government's announcement about announced but unlegislated changes to tax legislation:

"It is of course very important that these matters, dating back for up to 12 years, be put into legislation.

However, it is odd that nothing has been said about the rewrite of the Income Tax Assessment Act which was promised back in 1997.

Has there been any progress on this in recent years?

I understand that a number of the lawyers in Treasury who write the legislation may have resigned in recent years.

Perhaps it will not be as easy to 'catch up as the [new] Government indicates."
