“Our client graduated from university and commenced his career working for another professional.
As he is not an employee we applied for an ABN for him in January. He previously had an ABN that was cancelled. It is now the end of March and he is unable to get paid as he can’t issue a tax invoice. He also can’t lodge a BAS and pay the GST to the ATO as he does not have an ABN. His tax returns are up to date and he has paid large amounts of tax on time due to his investment income.
Calls to the ATO get a response that the ATO service standard is 28 days for the application and a further 28 days to reactivate the old ABN.”
