2013 Young Tax Professionals Series: The Adviser on Salary Earners

    The 2013 YTP Life Cycle of an Adviser Series offers practical tips to guide participants through a number of key tax and legal issues facing advisers today. Focusing on the “typical” client – ranging from salary earners to retirees – that may approach you for advice and assistance as you progress through your career, the sessions cover strategies adopted by advisers to manage those issues for clients.
    This session looked at being the adviser on salary earners. As you commence your career as a tax adviser, you find a common theme amongst potential clients who approach you is advice on minimising the amount of tax payable as they are starting to earn higher salaries, and are therefore pushed into higher tax brackets. This session covered potential approaches to minimise salary earners personal income tax, with a focus on employee deductions, salary packaging and the personal services income rules.
