This seminar paper discusses trends and developments in self managed superannuation funds, the recent shift in the Taxation Office's compliance focus and resulting compliance activities as well as areas of concern and potential remedies.
As the first presentation following the results of the Small Funds Compliance Benchmarking audits, it provides a 'hot off the press' insight into the findings of the Taxation Office's future self managed superannuation funds compliance activity.
Ian is the senior ATO Superannuation Officer in Perth, being the State Manager for Self Managed Superannuation Fund Compliance. Ian has been closely associated with SMSFs since the ATO became regulator, having managed the national transfer of compliance responsibility from APRA to the ATO. He has worked in the superannuation segment of the ATO for nine years and has a Masters in Economics and Public Policy. Current at 10 April 2003
