This presentation provides an overview of the Government’s proposals and further developments since the budget announcement. It also considers the impact of the proposals on common superannuation transactions and strategies.
This was originally presented at “The Government’s Plan to Simplify and Streamline Superannuation: Where are we now?” held in Adelaide on 23 August 2006. It includes some updates made for presentation at the ‘Major Changes: Superannuation, CGT Small Business Concessions and Bankruptcy’ seminar held in Darwin on 15 September 2007.
Steve is a Partner in the Taxation & Revenue section of Wallmans Lawyers with his principal practice areas being superannuation and tax. He also works on general commercial matters with a focus on tax planning, business structuring and insurance. Steve is a member of The Tax Institute’s State Council and National Council.

Matthew is the founder and Principal of MT Lawyers. He advises on all aspects of Superannuation, estate and succession law, with a specific focus on self-managed superannuation funds and complex estate planning. Prior to establishing MT Lawyers in Adelaide, Matthew had over 12 years' experience working in large commercial law firms. He was a Partner at Minter Ellison in Adelaide, heading up their Superannuation and Estate Planning division. Matthew has also lived and worked overseas in London and Hong Kong.
