Are you being served? The new regime for tax agents

Despite a long gestation period and ongoing consultation, the Tax Agent Services Bill 2008, which contains provisions designed to regulate and control tax agent registration and the broader tax service and tax advice industry, is still generating discussion and controversy. This article examines the development of the regulatory provisions through the Exposure Drafts in 2007 and 2008, and highlights concerns which remain with parts of the proposed regime.
