Paul began his career in taxation when he started work for the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) in Hobart. His first assignment was to the Debt Recovery area, he then trained as an assessor and assessed income tax returns before moving to Field Audit and Investigations. After interludes working as Director, Financial Services for the Hobart branch of the ATO, and as National Fleet Manager for the ATO, Paul became a Senior Case Manager in ATO Complaints, resolving complex complaints against the ATO. Along the way Paul obtained degrees in Commerce and Law at the University of Tasmania. He was admitted as a Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in 2007 and has since returned to his alma mater as a sessional lecturer in Taxation Law. Paul is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA). He serves The Tax Institute on its Tasmanian State Council, its National Professional Development Committee and its Education and Quality Assurance Board. In 2012, Paul moved to private practice. He is now a lawyer at Tierney Law in Hobart, providing advice to clients on taxation, commercial, consumer affairs and and estate planning matters. Current at 28 July 2016
