The wealth of individuals is increasingly to be found in superannuation. With this comes a need to ensure that superannuation interests are dealt with in accordance with a member’s wishes and are protected. This article looks at issues concerning control of superannuation funds and the protection of superannuation interests. In particular it considers how to control and protect superannuation assets by careful choice of trustees.
Joan is a special counsel with Harwood Andrews Lawyers in its Melbourne office. She provides legal compliance and advisory services to private and public sector businesses in corporate and revenue law including superannuation. She is President of the Taxation Institute of Australia and a director of a number of private companies.
