Sydney Tax Discussion Group

February – November 2025 | 10 part series

Enhance your technical expertise and stay connected to the issues shaping tax practice today!

The Sydney Tax Discussion Group meets monthly from February to November and brings together practitioners to collaborate, exchange insights and stay informed on emerging technical developments. Sessions combine structured technical updates with practical, discussion-based learning.

How the Sessions Run
Each session is an informal, discussion-based forum run by members of the group, supported by The Tax Institute. The format encourages open conversation, practical insights and peer-to-peer learning. Presentations are delivered by group members.

Every month, the group discusses two key elements:

  • Monthly Tax Update – a guided discussion covering recent cases, rulings, and developments of interest to tax practitioners, supported by a Monthly Tax Update paper.
  • Presentation – an informal presentation led by a member of the group or a guest speaker on a tax topic of their choice, followed by a group discussion.

Topics include
AML/CTF, Payday Super, Division 296, the 2026 Budget briefing, and using AI in tax advisory services.

Format & Locations
The Sydney program is delivered in a hybrid format, with a mix of in-person sessions hosted by member firms and online sessions throughout the year.

Who Should Attend?
Suitable for professionals at all experience levels who want to deepen their technical knowledge and engage in collaborative discussion.
