If you have completed prior studies that are equivalent to The Tax Institute Higher Education subjects, please complete this form to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Please refer to the RPL policy regarding the number of subjects that may be granted for each program. Fees are applicable per subject and are non-refundable. 

You may withdraw from a subject at any time and up to 72 hours after the exam. To withdraw, you must submit a completed Notification of Subject Withdrawal. The date you submit the form will determine the refund that you will receive, If you submit it:

  • Before the subject's commencement date, you will receive a 100% refund of your enrolment fee. Please note the 100% refund does not apply if you are a deferred candidate.
  • After the subject's commencement date but before the census date, you will receive a 80% refund of your enrolment fee.
  • After the census date, you will not receive a refund of your enrolment fee but there will be no academic penalty.

You may transfer your enrolment to a different subject (provided you meet the enrolment criteria for the new subject) before the census date. To transfer, please submit a completed Application for Subject Transfer.

  • If you submit the form before the subject's commencement date, you will only need to pay any difference in the subject enrolment fee.
  • If you submit the form after the subject's commencement date but before the census date, you will need to pay any difference in the subject enrolment fee plus a transfer fee.

Please note: No assessment extension or special consideration will be granted as a result of a subject transfer and delayed access to materials. 

Deferrals are available after census date and up to 72 hours after the final exam.

Subject Deferral - if you wish to defer your enrolment to one of the two subsequent study periods, please submit a completed Subject Deferral - Application Form. A deferral fee of $750 will apply.

Late Deferral - if your study is adversely affected by an event less than two weeks before the exam (medical, compassionate, hardship or trauma), you may apply for Late Deferral up to 72 hours after the final exam, as long as you have not sat the exam. Late deferrals are subject to the Academic Board approval and $200 fee will apply.

If your study is affected by ongoing illness or difficulty, which may have an effect on your exam performance, you may apply and complete the  Reasonable adjustment to exam conditions - Application Form.  Your application must be supported by evidence and submitted after commencement and by two weeks prior to the final exam to allow our staff to assess and make a decision. Possible outcomes may be: 

  • Consultation with you about reasonable adjustments.
  • Reasonable adjustments to content, assessment and candidate support services.
  • Reasonable adjustments to exam duration, breaks, food and drink, medication, assistive equipment or assessment design modifications.

If your study is adversely affected by an event less than two weeks before your exam (medical, compassionate, hardship or trauma), you may apply for Late Deferral up to 72 hours after the final exam, as long as you have not sat the exam. Please submit a completed Late Deferral - Application Form. Late deferrals are subject to the Academic Board approval and $200 fee will apply.

If your study is adversely affected by an event less than 72 hours before your exam (medical, compassionate, hardship or trauma), or your exam performance is adversely affected an event that is not within your control, you may apply for Special Considerations up to 72 hours after the final exam. Please submit a completed Special Consideration - Application form. Special Considerations are subject to approval by the Academic Board.

Possible outcomes are:

  • complementary enrolment in a later study period, and/or
  • waiver of fees or academic penalties.
