FAQs

Your enrolment is approved once we have received and reviewed your Academic Transcripts and a current CV listing relevant Australian tax or tax law experience. If we require further information regarding your enrolment after reviewing your documents, we will contact you. Otherwise, you will hear from us on commencement day with logins and access to the subject materials.

At the commencement of the study period, you will receive an email with login details and access to study materials via our Learning Management System. Amongst your subject resources, there will be a video on how to navigate your subject resources.
We are not able to provide access before commencement. If you do not receive the login details by 5 pm AEST / AEDT on the first day of the Study Period, contact us at taxeducation@taxinstitute.com.au for assistance.

A detailed timetable will become available from subject commencement. The timetable will include important due dates for Module Quizzes and assessments as well as the online session schedule where applicable. Note that subject components and due dates may differ from subject to subject and for different study modes.

All assessment tasks are set out in your subject on the Learning Management System.

For CTA1 Foundations, CTA2A Advanced, CTA2B Advanced, CommLaw1 Australian Legal SystemsCommLaw2 Entities & Business Structures and CommLaw3 Property Law, candidates must successfully complete Module Quizzes worth 40% and a final exam worth 60%. 

For Advanced SuperannuationTax for Trusts: from an SME perspective and Corporate Tax, candidates must successfully complete module quizzes (worth 10%), Letter of Advice (worth 40%) and a final exam (worth 50%). 

For CTA3 Advisory, candidates must complete Draft Solutions, Letter of Advice and the final exam which is worth 100%.

For all subjects, please refer to your subject outline for assessment requirements to pass the subject.

All exams are conducted on the Learning Management System with an online invigilation process. Upon commencement, you will have access to our exam guides, via the Learning Management System, which explain the exam process and outline exam rules.

Yes, all exams are computer-based and open-book; however, rules apply. You must not use search engines (e.g., Google, Yahoo, etc.), social media or email during the exam. You must connect to our invigilation software, Examity, for your exams and follow all exam rules outlined in your subject and exam guides.

The exam is online and can be sat from any location provided you meet the technical requirements and are able to follow the exam rules as outlined in the exam guides.

The exam is online and can be sat from any location. Please ensure you follow the exam rules and your computer equipment meets the following technical requirements:

  • Desktop or laptop computer (tablets and Chromebooks are not supported) with an operating system of macOS X 10.5 or higher or Windows Vista or higher. Linux is not supported.
  • Built-in or external webcam, built-in or external microphone, built-in or external speakers. If you communicate by Skype, Zoom or another similar product, your computer will have these capabilities. 
  • Google Chrome to access study materials and exams. 
  • Internet connection with upload and download speed of 2Mbps .
  • Candidates undertaking Advanced Super, Tax for Trusts, Corporate Tax and CTA3 must also have access to Microsoft Word.

The Tax Institute Higher Education expects that all work presented by candidates for assessment is their original work and that all candidates abide by sound academic practices. Where incidents of academic misconduct and poor academic practice are identified, The Tax Institute Higher Education’s response will follow the policy and procedures found in the Candidate Handbook downloadable from the Candidate Care Guide.

The Tax Institute Higher Education regularly updates and improves its subjects and policies. These changes will be advised via Subject Forum Posts which candidates receive regularly while enrolled.

If you are overseas, you can still complete our subjects and programs. However, some subjects (for instance, CTA2A Advanced, CTA2B Advanced and CTA3 Advisory) require Australian tax or tax law experience as a prerequisite.

Exams can be completed from an overseas location. If this falls outside of AEST or AEDT business hours, you can apply to sit the exam at a time more suitable time for you. Applications must be submitted to the Education team at least 30 days prior to the exam date, which will be reviewed and fees will apply upon approval of the application.

The Tax Institute Higher Education is based at Level 37/100 Miller Street, however, all programs and/or subjects are offered in an online delivery mode.

While studying a subject with The Tax Institute Higher Education, candidates are welcome to contact the Subject Convenor with any technical questions. The email address will be available in your subject on the Learning Management System (LMS) or you can post your technical question on the notice board of your subject in the LMS.

Health, Counselling and Legal Advice and other Support Services (including advocacy, accomodation and welfare).

Award candidates are entitled to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by Assure Programs. The EAP enables you to confidentially access to short-term professional counselling to assist with the resolution of work-related or personal concerns that may affect your academic performance or quality of life. This can include confidential, solutions focused-counselling, introductory legal advice, introductory financial coaching, introductory diet consultation, referrals to external health services and wellbeing coaching. Reporting Sexual Assault or Sexual Harassment  

If this is an emergency and is related to your studies with The Tax Institute Higher Education, we encourage you to contact your local police and seek assistance from the nearest hospital. You can also access medical attention from your local GP. In Australia, you can contact Police/Ambulance/Fire – 000, Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia 1800 211 028 or 1800RESPECT 1800 737 732 for 24/7 support. All candidates can contact the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by Assure Programs.

You can also report your incident to any Tax Institute Higher Education staff member. If you send an email, you will be contacted as soon as practicable by a TTHI representative if you have chosen to provide us with your contact details. You can remain anonymous, however, please understand that TTIHE will be limited in the action if can take if you are not able to be contacted. 

As a member of the TTIHE community, you have the right to feel safe at all times. TTIHE supports those who report sexual harassment or sexual assault and encourage reporting.
