The Tax Institute was established in 1943 with the aim of educating tax professionals and improving the position of tax agents, tax law and administration.
More than eight decades later, our membership of over 9,000 includes tax professionals from commerce and industry, academia, government and public practice throughout Australia. Our strong and diverse membership gives us a unique lens into the tax landscape – a complex and vitally important sector underpinning our economy.
Today, alongside educating the profession’s up-and-coming leaders we advocate for continuous improvement to tax policy, legislative and administrative issues to help build a fairer, more efficient and more sustainable tax system – not just for the benefit of our members, but in the interest of every Australian.
The Tax Institute is a registered Australian charity and not-for-profit organisation committed to advancing education within the tax profession, continuing professional development and advocating for improved tax policy for a fairer and more efficient tax system.
We are governed by an elected Board of Directors and National Council and supported by councils, committees, volunteers and professional staff.
