“Joan brings to the Taxation Institute of Australia her vast commercial experience from her background as Tasmania’s first woman commercial law partner and expertise in income tax and superannuation. On top of her years of commercial practice Joan also brings to the Taxation Institute a strong technical background, having been awarded Master of Laws by the University of London.” he said.

Joan Roberts said, “one of her priorities in the President's role would be to maintain existing and develop new strategies to ensure the Taxation Institute remains the pre-eminent tax body in terms of the education, products and services it delivers to its 15,000 Members and the contribution it makes to the development of the tax system through our submissions and representations on industry bodies”

“This is an exciting time for the tax profession with the review of Australia’s future tax system to deal with the demographic, social, economic and environmental challenges of the 21st century. On the tax agenda this encompasses the Government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, native title, the modernisation of the regulation of Tax Agents, the TOFA Stages 3 and 4 reforms to modernise the taxation of financial arrangements and Australia’s Future Tax System Review.
We want to continue to attract the best people and the leaders in the profession, and as the market leader, to meet the needs of our members and the profession through delivering over 300 education events held nationally.

“I am very proud to have been selected as president in 2009” Ms Roberts added.
