Thursday 19 December 2013: Today’s Federal Government announcement of Andrew Mills CTA (Life) as the new Second Commissioner to the Australian Taxation Office is an inspired choice that will serve to strengthen the private sector experience of the Tax Office senior leadership.
“The Tax Institute congratulates Andrew Mills on his appointment as Second Commissioner to the Australian Taxation Office,” said Tax Institute President-elect, Michael Flynn CTA.
“Andrew is a long-standing, distinguished Life Member and Chartered Tax Adviser of The Tax Institute, who has previously served as The Tax Institute’s President, including eight years as a National Councillor.
“Through his significant involvement with tax policy and tax administration over the years, Andrew is well-versed in the need to strive for a simpler, fairer and more efficient tax system.
“As an external appointee, Andrew will approach issues with a mindset that involves drawing on his many years as a taxpayer's adviser, intimately familiar with the crushing effect of a complex tax system.
“He will be an excellent addition to the senior leadership ranks of the Tax Office,” Mr Flynn concluded.
