Inaugural Tax Adviser of the Year Awards to be awarded

Hobart – 26 March, 2014: The future of Australian taxation, including key areas for reform, will be discussed and debated when Australia’s leading tax professionals head to Hobart on Wednesday, 26 March for the 29th National Convention of The Tax Institute.

This year’s Convention takes place in the early months of a new Federal Government and in the lead up to its highly-anticipated tax white paper; a key item of the Government’s legislative agenda. As such the Convention will address the most important tax issues affecting Australia in 2014 and into the future.

Michael Flynn, President of The Tax Institute, said, “This year’s National Convention program has been designed to educate and inform delegates on the key issues facing tax professionals in Australia.

“The Tax Institute and our tax professional members are best placed to provide insights into the challenges faced across the country and the opportunities to improve tax policy outcomes for all Australians,” said Mr Flynn.

This year’s event will feature keynote addresses from The Hon Steven Ciobo MP, the Federal Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Chris Jordan AO, the Commissioner of Taxation and The Hon Justice Stephen Gageler, High Court of Australia.

Among the topics discussed will be the implications for business and tax professionals in areas such as international tax rules and tax havens; superannuation; financial reporting; trust reform and general tax advice for business.

Also introduced at this year’s Convention will be the inaugural Tax Adviser of the Year Awards to recognise the profession’s highest achievers.

“Representing the pinnacle achievement for the best tax practitioners, from rising stars to industry leaders, the awards will recognise those individuals who are making their mark in the industry and reward them with a valuable opportunity to highlight their excellence in tax,” said Mr Flynn.

The awards will be presented at the National Convention dinner in Hobart on Thursday 27 March.
