This session is about understanding our interpretation system and how it works.
It’s not rocket-science nor is it arcane mystery. Our ‘modern approach’ is an objective, logical and accessible ‘system’ based on the ‘text > context > purpose > text’ pathway. The emphasis in this session will be on key principles which run the system, how to navigate the system with confidence, and how to avoid rookie errors. Things covered will include the importance of context, the obligation to seek coherence, and the centrality of legislative purpose.
This session provided a template within which to interpret tax laws, discuss some common problems, direct you to sources of assistance, and (if time permits) touch on AI issues.
