Denis James has a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Economics from the University of Newcastle and a Master of Economics Degree from the Australian National University.
Since 1980, he has been a Research Specialist in the Parliamentary Research Service of the Commonwealth Parliament, where his principle advisory responsibilities have encompassed the fields of intergovernmental relations, public finance and transport economics.
